Warm glasses made by glassblower Komaki Kohei.

The long, hot summer is over, and the weather is finally starting to cool down. Autumn is here, and it's the season when we want to calm down a bit and slowly embrace the transitional nature of time.

We will be holding an exhibition and sales event of glasses that will resonate with these feelings from Saturday, October 14th to Sunday, October 22nd, 2023.

Glassblowing is a technique in which molten glass at high temperature is wound around a stainless steel pipe, and then blown into to inflate it like a balloon, causing it to harden.

Each glass made using this technique has a different look and feels unique.

Glass melts at a high temperature of about 1200 degrees, so the heat is always intense in the workshop. For this reason, Komaki-san works on his pieces in short sleeves even in winter. He says he feels a sense of accomplishment when he is satisfied with the work he has made after going through all that hard work.

He currently has his studio in the mountains at an altitude of 700 meters, where he lives close to nature.

Komaki's signature work and iconic piece is Pecoriglass.

The plump glass creates an adorable silhouette, as if it is bowing.

"I create these glasses because I believe that the design is not the shape, but the personality of each glass. I would be happy if you could choose a glass that you like," says Komaki. In addition to clear glasses, colored glasses are also planned to be specially made for this event.

Glasses filled with emotion have a pleasant trembling and warmth to them. We hope you will actually pick them up, look at them, and enjoy the once-in-a-lifetime experience before purchasing your very own favorite glass.

Komaki-san will be present on the first and second days of the event, Saturday, October 14th and Sunday, October 15th. This will be a chance to meet and talk with him, so please come along.
