Summer is finally here. I recently went to a local festival. Being a greedy eater, I shoveled food from the food stalls into my hands, and while staring blankly at the Bon Odori festival , I stuffed my face with yakisoba, frankfurters, and okonomiyaki, washing them down with Ramune candy. Summer 2025 has arrived.
That being said, just when we thought the bad weather of the first half of this week was over, we're back in the midst of another wave of scorching heat. Even if we wish for temperatures to stay around 23 degrees, that's not always possible, as is the law of nature. The workshop is located in Sabae City, Fukui Prefecture, where each pair is made by eyeglass craftsman Daisuke Amada. Sabae City apparently accounts for over 90 % of the national share of eyeglass frame production.
It is said to be one of the three largest eyeglass production areas in the world. The world is amazing, isn't it? Amada's MEGANEROCK , produced in this city of eyeglasses , truly takes the best of both worlds.
First and foremost, the impact of its appearance is undeniable. It can be folded to fit in the palm of your hand. In stores, it is displayed in various forms, with folding trials and in stages of folding, and it is common to hear exclamations of admiration at its one-of-a-kind appearance. It also comes with a small drawstring pouch that can be used to clean your glasses. As I wrote in my last blog, I like to minimize the amount of luggage I carry, so to be honest, I don't want to carry a big glasses case. It is so small and packable. You can put it in your pocket, and it fits easily in a small bag. It's a delight.
After being impressed by its foldable functionality, I was surprised by how light it was when I picked it up. The sunglasses themselves are unisex, but Type I is more suitable for women to wear. The lenses are not too large and are relatively suitable for a wide range of face shapes. Type II is characterized by its beautiful round shape.
The lens size of this model is relatively larger, so it can be worn on a wide range of face sizes. My personal recommendation is the Clear Grey model, which has a slightly transparent frame. It is also recommended for those who find sunglasses to be a little too intense.
