These ceramic analog speakers for smartphones were born from a collaboration between Danish product design unit KiBiSi and Kasama ware ceramist Ito Kosho.
OTO is a combination of a bowl-shaped vessel and a wind instrument. The trumpet-shaped cylinder expands with the sound of the small speaker installed in the body of the smartphone, and the bowl can hold small items. The adapter that can be connected to an iPhone and the legs that increase the acoustic effect were carved from walnut in a woodworking workshop in Iwate.
Our aim was to blend traditional techniques with a modern, cutting-edge lifestyle, resulting in the creation of new everyday items that are uniquely modern and nostalgic.
The body is made on a potter's wheel with semi-industrial precision, and is crafted using Ito Kosho's unique technique of using crazing, meaning no two pieces are alike.
